I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since Cameron and I got engaged already! Time really does fly when you’re having fun (it’s a proposal story post, I can add some cheese). Though we haven’t done much of anything planning wise, Cameron especially, I figured this would be the perfect time to share our proposal story here with you all.
I’ll start with a little background information about us and an accelerated version of our history. We met during our first semester of college after graduating high school. At the time, we went to the same small community college and apparently had many mutual friends since middle school but had yet to ever meet each other. One night I went out with some friends and by chance we ended up at a club I usually didn’t go to. Cameron happened to be at the same club so our mutual friends introduced us to each other. Fast forward a couple weeks, we met again, and one night I received a friend request on Facebook. Four years later here we are!
Cameron’s family, his mother especially, are all Disney obsessed. Cameron’s first Disney trip was in the womb and just about every single year afterwards. I never got to go visit Disney as a chid but always loved all things Disney. In 2012, I took my first trip to Walt Disney World with Cameron and his family. I cried tears of joy and had one of the best times of my entire life, as soon as I arrived I knew I’d be back again and again.
We had discussed wanting to take another Disney trip, maybe a family trip or maybe a trip for just the two of us. In November of 2013, Cameron’s mother began having some issues with her health which were found to be caused by a brain tumor a couple months later. With the diagnosis of a cancerous brain tumor we all focused our energy towards her well being and spending time with her. We had discussed that in the event of her passing we would make light of the situation and do things that would have made her happy.
Cameron’s mother lost her battle with cancer in January 2014. It was decided that she wanted us plan a trip to Disney World for the two of us after her passing. So we did just that.

May 25, 2014, we had just landed in Orlando, Florida. Though we were tired from traveling and had been up since about 3 am, we could not wait to get to our resort, race to the Magic Kingdom, and begin our week of fun!
We had two days planned at the Magic Kingdom during our stay, the day we arrived and later on in the week. We are huge planners and had our schedule with fast passes, dining reservations, etc down but had a bit of time to spare when we first arrived at the park. We hadn’t been to the Magic Kingdom since Storybook Circus had opened and I had been talking about meeting Minnie Magnifique at Pete’s Silly Sideshow since the second we booked the trip. (Never grow up!) So of course since we had some time to spare before our first fast pass time, I raced from the park entrance to the back towards Storybook Circus. Cameron had seemed nervous all day, taking quite a few bathroom trips (I’ll mention this again later), and seemed extra nervous since we had arrived at the park but I didn’t think anything of it.
While waiting in line to meet Minnie Magnifique we had discussed that I would go first so I could take a photo with her by myself. I got up to the front and walked up to Minnie, got a huge hug and began to turn around expecting to have my photo taken but what I was met with was Cameron on one knee!
Minnie also had me take a whole new round of photos with her!
I was so overwhelmed with emotions – as you can see in the photos haha! Even though close friends had been teasing that they had a feeling it was going to happen on this trip, I really wasn’t expecting to be proposed to! I love that we have photos because the whole moment is kind of a blur in my head since it all seemed to happen so quickly. Everyone behind us on line to meet the characters began cheering, clapping, and just overall bursting from happiness. I don’t believe I even ever gave Cameron an answer; just shockingly grabbed the ring, put it on, and then kissed him – a yes of sorts.
They allowed us to take a bunch more photos before leaving, both on my iPhone and the Disney PhotoPass photographers camera. They don’t have the best lighting inside but I have a billion awesome photos that I can treasure forever and I beyond grateful for that. Cameron had called ahead and planned the entire thing. I had unknowingly shaken up the plan by wanting to run to meet Minnie Magnifique first thing. Cameron’s bathroom trips had been to sneakily unpack the ring after traveling and to check for it to still be in his pocket. Thankfully Disney is super accommodating.
The whole rest of the day was one to remember, other park guests who had witnessed the proposal were congratulating us throughout the day, my cheeks hurt from smiling, and I could not take my eyes off of my newly bling’ed out hand! I’m smiling just writing this post, thinking of our trip, and of all of our Disney trips to come.
118 days till the next one!
Hope you guys enjoyed our proposal story, thank you for reading.
