The one and only dish I always order at Noodles & Co is the Pesto Cavatappi because it’s just too delicious to try anything else. Does anyone else get anxiety at the thought of trying a new meal from a restaurant? No, just me? I have an irrational thought that I will try something new, which I won’t like, and I will have “wasted” a trip out. Anyway, one of my favorite things about cooking is being able to recreate dishes from my favorite restaurants at home with fresh ingredients.
Cameron and I took a trip to our local farmers market this past Saturday and we decided to pick up all the ingredients for our Noodles & Co pesto cavatappi copy cat recipe. We actually used rotini this time around. There was no fresh cavatappi at the farmers market and this freshly made garlic rotini was calling our names. Any hearty pasta that can pick up the sauce is a great choice.
Seriously, who doesn’t love macaroni and cheese? I love to eat mac and cheese in all shapes, styles, and variations but this pepper jack mac has got to be my favorite macaroni and cheese recipe of all time. It combines two of my favorite foods – mac and cheese and pepper jack cheese.
You guys, I made it through my first Whole 30 despite National Donut Day during my last week! Bad planning, I know! I couldn’t even celebrate my favorite food. If you’re wondering why I decided to give Whole 30 a try or what the heck it is, you can read my thoughts and more about the program in my original post here. Continue after the jump to see how I made it through my first Whole 30 experience and the answer to, “Well, what can you eat!?!”
Today just may be my second favorite holiday behind Christmas. National Donut Day is held on the first Friday of June each year. There’s a sweet story behind the origin of donut day too. The first donut day came about on June 7th 1938 when a young military doctor named Morgan Pett was sent to a military base. Morgan stopped and picked up 8 dozen donuts on his way there. When he arrived he handed those donuts out to wounded soldiers. He and one of the wounded soldiers decided to create a fundraiser to provide every wounded soldier with a donut! The Salvation Army still celebrates with giving out donuts.
Scratching the first thing off my summer 2015 bucket list – make homemade fruit leather!
I chose to make strawberry fruit leather as I’ve been on a strawberry kick since starting Whole 30 and I consider them my favorite fruit. This recipe was super easy and I can’t wait to try different fruit combinations. The most time consuming part was the cooking process. The eating process was about a 1/10 of the cooking time.
